process

Each tree is milled at the sawmill into rough slabs of various thicknesses and lengths, always leaving the shape of the tree at each edge. The slabs are then laid out, labeled & covered allowing for maximum airflow without additional moisture, to air dry for a minimum of 2 years, depending on type of wood.

After the drying period, the slabs are planed on both sides. It is from these—for custom pieces—that the customer chooses the wood slab they like, and the design collaboration with Ken begins. After the design is set, all components of the piece are sanded multiple times using very course to very fine sandpaper. This stage is critical to the best possible finish.

The piece is then assembled using state-of-the-art machinery and technique, hand finished with appropriate oils and hand rubbed to enhance the grain of the wood and character of each piece.
